It is with great sadness we report the passing of Rangitea (Rangi) John Komene. The club extends condolences to Rangi's Whanau.
Rangi passed away peacefully at 10.26am on Sunday 29 August 2021 with his Nephew at his side.
Rangi touched the hearts of so many people and we as a club will forever remember him for his tireless commitment and service.
Rangi first came to prominence as a member of the Tukapa Senior Fourth team that won the Taranaki Championship Title for their grade in 1986. The following year he became the water boy for the Senior A's and continued in that role for 34 successive years. During this time with the Senior A's, Rangi was actively involved in winning 7 Taranaki Championship Titles. His job with the Senior A team was iconic and he will be remembered for his enthusiasm running the sideline, his animated gestures, and that infectious smile.
Rangi's service to the club didn't stop with the Senior A's, he has helped out at countless club working bees over the years, has always helped at the annual Queens Birthday sevens tournament and these days is up at Tukapa in the winter no later than 8.00 am every Saturday morning to set up the grounds for junior rugby. Finally, he has taken on the role of parking attendant for afternoon grade matches at home, always ensuring lots of road cones are in place to allow visiting team buses to park close to our Clubhouse.
There would be few if any people who have given as much to a club as Rangi did for Tukapa. We owe him a massive debt of gratitude and we will never be blessed by anyone like Rangi again. A true blue Tukapa legend in his own lifetime.
