Chooks Newsletter 12 June 2026

Last weekend may have delivered some average results on the field, but there was certainly no shortage of success off it. The clubrooms were packed as we celebrated 10 years of Tukapa Crab Racing, and it was fantastic to see players from all grades getting in behind the event and making it another memorable night. I'm sure there were a few lads around the club this week living on two-minute noodles after backing the wrong crab a few too many times!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored, raced crabs, sold tickets and helped make the night another great success. Events like these are what make Tukapa such a special place.

Before we look ahead to this weekend, it is important we acknowledge a special milestone for one of our own.
This week we celebrate another significant achievement for one of Tukapa's most respected clubmen, Campbell Woodmass, as he reaches 50 Premier games for the blue and white.
Campbell arrived in New Plymouth with an impressive rugby pedigree. A former Mana College halfback, he established himself as a quality player in both Auckland and Wellington club rugby, spending time with both Ponsonby and Norths. Throughout his rugby journey, Campbell built a reputation as a tough, dependable halfback and respected leader on and off the field.
Since making the move to Tukapa, Campbell has fully embraced the Taranaki lifestyle. He and his partner Jess have made New Plymouth home, purchasing a house and recently welcoming their daughter Robbie into the world.
While his performances on the field have been outstanding, it is what Campbell does away from the game that has made such a lasting impact on our club. He is always one of the first to welcome new players arriving at Tukapa, helping them settle into both the club and the wider community. He has also invested countless hours working alongside our young halfbacks, sharing his knowledge, experience and passion for the game with the next generation.
Campbell embodies everything that makes Tukapa special – commitment, loyalty, humility and putting the club before himself. He is the sort of person every club wishes they had and someone we are incredibly proud to call one of our own.
On behalf of everyone at Tukapa, thank you Campbell for everything you have contributed to our club and community. Congratulations on bringing up another 50 games in the blue and white, and we look forward to seeing many more to come.

This week is a special one for our club as it is the only week this season where all five of our senior teams are playing at home. Combined with our annual Family Day, it promises to be one of the biggest and best days of the year at Sanders Park.
One of the things that makes Tukapa such a special club is the number of family connections we have throughout our teams. We have fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, cousins and lifelong friends all proudly representing the blue and white. To have everyone playing at the same venue on the same day is a great opportunity to celebrate what being part of the Tukapa family is all about.
The day starts bright and early with 13 junior games being played at home before our Toa take on Inglewood at 11.30am. At 1.00pm our Colts and Division 1 sides both face Inglewood while our Division 2 lads take on Kaitake. We then build towards the Premier Men kicking off against Inglewood at 2.45pm.

11:30am – Toa vs Inglewood
1:00pm – Colts vs Inglewood
1:00pm – Division 1 vs Inglewood
1:00pm – Division 2 vs Kaitake
2:45pm – Premiers vs Inglewood

There will be plenty happening throughout the day for the whole family. We will have a free bouncy castle for the kids, along with a lolly scramble off the deck at halftime of the Premier game.
So pack up the family, grab a spot on the sideline and enjoy a great day at your family club.

The fun starts before Saturday, with our Junior Disco taking place on Friday night. With separate sessions for different age groups, it promises to be a fantastic night for our younger members, so make sure you check out the poster below for all the details.

Then on Saturday night it is the adults' turn, with DJ Marty Likes to Party taking over from 7.00pm.
With disco lights, great music and plenty of laughs, it will be the perfect way to finish what should be an outstanding Family Day. Get your mates together, stay around after the rugby and enjoy a great night at the Chookhouse.

Just like I mentioned last week when thanking our wonderful sponsors, Tukapa simply couldn't do what it does without the support of our people. The same goes for our families.
Whether it is coaching, managing, helping in the kitchen, setting up fields, fundraising, driving players around the province or simply supporting from the sideline every week, our families are the backbone of our club.
Tukapa is proud to be the biggest family club in Taranaki, and that title is only possible because of the incredible families who continue to give so much to our great club.
Thank you to every family that supports Tukapa. We appreciate everything you do, and I look forward to seeing you all at Sanders Park this Saturday.

One Club, One Family.

See you on the sideline.
